Torch Instructions Review

Torch care

Simple steps for reliable light.

Fit the right batteries, look after your torch and keep it ready for everyday jobs, outdoor use and emergencies.

Before you start

A few checks make battery changes safer.

Switch the torch off

Turn the torch off and allow it to cool before opening the battery compartment.

Use the correct batteries

Check the torch label or packaging for the correct battery type and quantity. Common sizes include AA, AAA, C and D.

Work on a dry surface

Use clean, dry hands and a flat, stable surface so small parts and batteries stay under control.

Check the contacts

Look for dust, moisture or corrosion inside the compartment and wipe it clean before fitting fresh batteries.

First use

Removing the Battery Isolator Disc

Some torches, including the Focus, have a battery isolator disc fitted for transport. More models may also have one.

Unscrew the end cap of the torch to open the battery compartment.

Locate the white plastic isolator disc sitting between the battery and the contact.

Remove and discard the isolator disc.

Screw the end cap firmly back onto the torch.

The torch is now ready to use.

IMPORTANT: The isolator disc is fitted to prevent the battery from making contact during storage and transport. It must be removed before first use.

Battery replacement

Follow these six simple steps.

1

Open the compartment

Twist the end cap or body section anti-clockwise. Some torches open at the base; others open at the top or through the body.

2

Remove the old batteries

Slide out all used batteries carefully. If a battery is stuck, do not force it or use a sharp tool.

3

Check the polarity

Find the plus and minus symbols inside the compartment. The flat end normally sits against the spring, but always follow the markings in your torch.

4

Fit the fresh batteries

Insert all batteries in the marked direction and make sure they are seated firmly without forcing the cap.

5

Close it securely

Refit the cap or body section and twist clockwise until it is secure and snug. A properly closed compartment helps protect performance.

6

Test the light

Turn the torch on. If it does not illuminate, switch it off and recheck the battery direction, contacts and compartment closure.

New compact torch? Some torches, including the Focus, are shipped with a battery isolator disc for transport. Remove the disc from the battery contact before first use, then close the compartment and test the light.

Battery safety and care

  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix different battery brands or types.

  • Keep batteries away from children and dispose of used batteries responsibly.

If the torch still does not work

  • Check that the batteries match the required type.
  • Check the plus and minus direction.
  • Make sure the cap is fully closed.
